About The Position

The Performance Engineer will be a critical, customer-facing expert responsible for leading the implementation and execution of Shipium's Compass Optimization Services (detailed below). This role requires a blend of deep technical and operational knowledge, relentless curiosity, and a strong consultative approach - the ability to identify trends and prioritize recommendations that deliver competitive advantage for the customer.

Requirements

  • Parcel Shipping Expertise (minimum 5 years): Adequate, hands-on experience within the parcel shipping and logistics industry is essential. It is strongly preferred that this experience is either in the role of a shipper or providing strategic consulting to shippers.
  • Contract Management (2 years): Familiarity with the key components of a contract and the levers to negotiate cost, risk, and service. Parcel and LTL contract negotiation experience is a plus.
  • Invoicing Knowledge (2 years): A strong understanding of shipping invoicing, including cost components, surcharges, and discrepancy identification, is required. Parcel invoicing expertise is strongly preferred.
  • Consultative Approach: Proven experience demonstrating the ability to diagnose complex business challenges, communicate strategic recommendations, and align client objectives with service delivery. This experience may be as a practitioner or consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Project Leadership: Lead and manage complex customer engagements, leveraging simulations, analytical prowess, and industry expertise to guide shippers through critical optimization projects across the full suite of services in Shipium’s portfolio.
  • Service Development and Delivery: Directly lead and execute key project types, including: Carrier Portfolio Management and Strategic Planning Workshops
  • RFP and Negotiation Support, often involving complex scenario modeling
  • Fulfillment Optimization projects, such as Inventory Positioning & Sourcing and Physical Network Design
  • Controllership functions, such as Billing Management, Margin Analysis, and Budgeting Support
  • Internal Advocacy: Serve as the continuous feedback loop between customer engagements and the Product Development team, clearly conveying project outcomes, recurring pain points, and new opportunities to directly inform and influence the Shipium product roadmap with the voice-of-the-customer amplified.
  • Performance Monitoring: Utilize and interpret the Network Performance Dashboard and simulations to track the value realized from implemented changes and recommendations.
  • Partnership: Strengthening relationships across the Shipium organization to ensure adequate support and engagement in the program, both from a Services Delivery perspective and for a successful Product Development roadmap.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of basic office products (Google Workspace, MS Office, etc.); proven experience with self-service data extraction (SQL), analysis, reporting and visualization tools; familiarity with AI tools (Gemini, Claude, etc.); exposure to project management software; the ability to learn technology quickly. Knowledge of the capabilities of various forms and levels of AI, the ability to apply them to customer use cases.
