Requirements

  • The Perfect Binder Operator will operate a soft-cover Kolbus Binder with fully integrated quality control features: Signature Recognition, Thickness Calipers on each feeder and Mill Unit, Skewed Signature Detection, Miss and Double Detection at the Cover Station, and Cold Back Book Rejection.
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts (7a-7p; 7p-7a) to meet customer demands.
  • Able to work overtime as required.
  • Effective communication skills

  • Possess a good mechanical aptitude and intermediate math skills.
  • Able to use hand tools to set up and adjust equipment.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experienced in using rulers, calipers, and other measuring devices.
  • Physically capable of lifting to 60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Knowledge of how to read machine blueprints and parts lists.
  • Physically capable of bending, kneeling, standing/walking on cement floors for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and follow job instructions to setup perfect binder according to book makeup, height, width, and thickness.
  • Gather and collate multiple pages and/or signatures for in-feed.
  • Ensure quick and timely set up of bindery equipment.
  • Operate and adjust milling and spine bindery preparation station.
  • Operate and adjust side and spine, bindery gluing units.
  • Operate and adjust the control module for each station.
  • Operate and adjust bindery delivery and lay-down section.
  • Operate and observe machines to detect malfunctions throughout the production run.
  • Follow and comply with all company Quality Control procedures and policies to ensure acceptable work.
  • Ability to select, inspect, compare, and confirm customer samples.
  • Responsible for training and instructing assigned Bindery Associates during job setup through to completion on a case-by-case basis.
  • As a team member always assist others when needed or requested.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas of the plant and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work well with others and function with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits in a manufacturing environment.
