About The Position

The Percussion/Horn Teacher/Band Director provides instruction and ensemble leadership for two high school rock band groups in a pop/rock performance setting. This position supports students on drum set, auxiliary percussion, and horn/rhythm section skills through technique instruction, part assignment, sectional coaching, and co-teaching full rehearsals. The role also includes equipment setup and maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience teaching percussion/drum set and/or directing student ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of pop/rock performance practices and rehearsal techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students across a range of skill levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching horn section/rhythm section rehearsal strategies.
  • Experience teaching student solo development and performance readiness.
  • School-based or youth music program teaching/coaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assign drum set and percussion parts for students in each of two high school groups.
  • Teach parts and proper techniques for drum set and percussion players in a pop/rock ensemble (timekeeping, groove, dynamics, fills, transitions, and stylistic accuracy).
  • Teach solo techniques for students assigned solo passages.
  • Lead horn/rhythm section group rehearsals to strengthen ensemble cohesion, timing, balance, and stylistic execution.
  • Co-teach full-group rehearsals with other band directors, emphasizing balance, teamwork, groove, stage performance, and overall ensemble readiness for each group.
  • Set up, organize, and monitor safe use of equipment (drum set/percussion equipment, stands, mics as applicable, cables, and storage).
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-supervised learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate consistently and communicate effectively with the Rock Band Camp team and program leadership.
  • Maintain clear routines, positive rehearsal culture, and strong student supervision.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, preparedness, and professionalism throughout the program.
  • Use district-approved channels and follow program protocols for any student/family communication as directed by leadership.
