About The Position

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will perform all duties and tasks under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist may be assigned to the following shifts: 6:30 AM-7:00 PM, 9:00 AM-9:30 PM, 11:00 AM-11:30 PM, including weekends and holidays, to various ORs and specialties including OB as needed. Worksite location will be both the Orange and Irvine campuses. Under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, perform safe anesthesia care, consisting of the following: Pre-operative assessment, writing of appropriate pre-op orders as specified by approved standard procedure, administration of all types of anesthetic and techniques, patient monitoring intra-operatively, providing for safe intra-op course and emergence, and assisting as necessary in post-operative care.

Requirements

  • California RN and Nurse Anesthetist License.
  • AANA Certification.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse license.
  • Valid California Nurse Anesthetist license.
  • Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Skill in performing pre-operative assessment of surgical patients.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology, dosage, side effects and contraindications of all drugs currently employed in anesthesia practice at UCI.
  • Skill in performing all techniques of monitored, regional and general anesthesia commonly employed at UCI for all age categories.
  • Ability to recognize post-operative complications of anesthesia and initiate emergency treatment when indicated.
