About The Position

Social Work Changes Lives: Social Workers Make It Possible Per Diem Social Worker - Float - Weekends At NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, talented social workers lead, learn and educate in a department like no other. We collaborate across the full spectrum of key areas, providing life-changing research, education and practice. In this role, the Per Diem Social Worker, covers primarily Inpatient services, including various medicine, surgery, and pediatric units, and occasionally the emergency department. The SW provides psychosocial assessment for patients identified as high risk during their inpatient admission. The SW works diligently to assure that appropriate plans and interventions are carried out to ensure a safe and appropriate discharge, and manages discharges to alternate levels of care. The SW also works closely with patients who are uninsured and underserved to identify community resources and financial entitlements. The SW assesses for abuse and neglect and makes appropriate referrals to protective services as needed. The SW also works closely with the interdisciplinary team to help gain understanding of significant psychosocial issues, culture and the strengths and needs of the patients they are treating. This is a Per Diem weekend position, working 4 sifts per month, Saturdays and/or Sunday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • New York State License as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)
  • New Hires pending a NYS Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), must have Limited Permit (must supply exam date prior to start of employment); the LMSW must be obtained within 1 year of hire
