About The Position

The Residential Counselor provides a safe and therapeutic milieu for patients in the Residential Programs to foster growth and independence. Duties/Responsibilities: Maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu through the admission process and orientation of new patients, maintaining appropriate boundaries, identifying environmental risks, completing patient safety checks as ordered, and by structuring and supervising daily activities and overseeing all crisis management of residents. Encourages patient’s full participation in program of care and help identifies treatment-interfering behaviors. Identifies significant behavioral changes in patients and assesses as needed for suicide and fall risk, per policy, and informs necessary team members. Ensures care provided is appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Appropriately monitors self-administration of medication by patients and completes all required records in an accurate and timely fashion. Ensure patient medications are ordered. Reports all medication errors, chart deficiencies, and other work performance errors to supervisor. Collaborates and communicates with all treatment team members concerning all patient observations. Administers house admission process and maintains required logs and documentation. Actively conducts in-house group meetings as indicated by house schedule, such as community meeting, wrap-up group, DBT Skill Review, and Smart Recovery-informed groups. Provide skill coaching for patients to reinforce skill development. Maintains accurate, timely, and complete records of patients, including daily shift notes. Completes all required documentation upon patient discharge. Covers house operations role in the absence of the Senior Residential Counselor, as assigned. Performs other responsibilities and duties not delineated above that are specific to area of assignment. Requirements

  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Knowledge of 12-Step Recovery.
  • Basic knowledge of DBT skills.
  • CPR BLS certification, after hire and before assignment to direct patient care.
  • Previous work experience in a behavioral health setting, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field.
