About The Position

The Per Diem Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing patient care for critical care patients. The role requires demonstrating quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice while remaining flexible to changing systems. The nurse will support other nursing units by floating when needed after appropriate orientation and is expected to treat patients, families, visitors, peers, and physicians with consideration and respect. The position also involves working well under stress or with tight deadlines, supporting the District Mission, Vision, and Values Statements, and maintaining confidentiality according to District policy and State and Federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Current California license as a Registered Nurse.
  • BLS certification required from the American Heart Association prior to hire date.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications required prior to end of orientation period or 120 days from hire date.
  • One year of Critical Care/Telemetry experience with two years of Med/Surg experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of critical care/telemetry patients of all ages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Exhibits critical thinking and assessment abilities to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy.
  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact, and poise.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of patients in the critical care unit after appropriate orientation.
  • Maintains ability to perform competencies within the unit and completes renewal of competencies annually.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Assesses and interprets data about the patient's status to identify specific needs and provide appropriate care.
  • Documents care through appropriate charting and care planning for continuation of care.
  • Performs low level cleaning of equipment and gross decontamination of instruments.
  • Maintains competency to don and doff PPE for Infection Control measures.
  • Functions as a team member within the unit and the nursing department.
  • Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.
  • Completes hospital-wide skills criteria annually and complies with annual PPD testing.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities within the unit and Nursing Department.

  • Salary Range: $47.33 - $65.23, determined based on experience and internal equity.
