About The Position

The Perfusionist performs functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the perfusion of solid organs for transplantation. The Perfusionist operates the appropriate equipment during any case whereby the donor organ will be perfused prior to transplantation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Certification/competency assessment with the transplant team upon hire.
• 1 year experience as a Perfusionist

Responsibilities

• Consults with the attending physician and/or transplant surgical fellow for each organ that will be perfused prior to transplant.
• Delivers to the OR the perfusion kit disposables along with blood products, agents or medications to be used during the case.
• With the transplant surgical fellow (or attending surgeon), puts the organ on the perfusion machine and monitors it until stabilized.
• Checks labs as per protocol during the stabilization period.
• Reaches out to transplant surgical fellow and/or attending surgeon for any trouble shooting issues.
• Once organ is stabilized, hands off to perfusion team monitors who will provide oversight during the remaining time the organ is perfused.
• Works with transplant administration to ensure readily available stock of perfusion supplies are maintained onsite.
