Provides cardiopulmonary support, cardiovascular monitoring, blood salvage and all related services, equipment and documentation for open heart surgery. Operates and maintains cardiac assist devices and cardiovascular monitoring services in the operating room and throughout the hospital. Provides intra-and post-operative autotransfusion. Provides pacemaker support services intra-operatively and throughout the hospital.

  • Operates/maintains cardiopulmonary support equipment during open heart surgery.
  • Provides cardiopulmonary bypass for elective and emergency open heart surgery.
  • Documents all procedures/functions performed during open heart surgery.
  • Operates/maintains life support/assist devices throughout the hospital.
  • Provides intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation in the operating room, cardiac catheterization laboratory, and support in special care units.
  • Provides membrane oxygenator support long term in operating room, special care units or emergency department when necessary.
  • Provides ventricular assist devices in the operating room or special care units when necessary.
  • Provides pacemaker support when necessary in operating units throughout the hospital.
  • Remains current in the field of life support/assist devices.
  • Operates and maintains life support/assist devices in surrounding hospitals including transportation of patients to and from Riverside.
  • Operates/maintains cardiovascular monitoring in the operating room and special care units.
  • Operates and maintains electrical pressure monitoring equipment including portable and stationary monitors, pressure transducers, pulmonary artery balloon-tip catheters, and other necessary supplies.
  • Provides measurement of intracranial pressure, stump pressures, compartmental muscle pressures, or other pressure when necessary.
  • Implements clinical comparisons of equipment when clinically or financially appropriate.
  • Operates/maintains intra-operative and post-operative autotransfusion.
  • Provides intra-operative autotransfusion for scheduled and emergency surgery cases.
  • Operates/maintains post-operative and other autotransfusion as necessary in special care units.
  • Provides mediastinal autotransfusion as surgeon requests.
  • Provides post-operative orthopedic and other autotransfusion throughout the hospital as physician requests.
  • Provides methods of hemoconcentrating shed blood for administration to patient.
  • Provides methods of determining anticoagulation status of patient.
  • Documents all blood salvage and processing as necessary.
  • Operates/maintains pacemaker analysis equipment in the operating room and throughout the hospital.
  • Provides lead analysis at the time of implant of permanent pacemakers.
  • Provides generator analysis at implant and in follow-up.
  • Operates and maintains pacemaker programming equipment for use in operating rooms and throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains all temporary pacemakers, leads, and accessories.
  • Provides 24 hour coverage for usage and maintenance of all above equipment/circumstances.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties related to above services when called upon by physicians.
  • Must remain current in related fields including dialysis, and organ preservation.
  • Provides formal and informal in-services to hospital staff when necessary.
  • Orders and stocks implantable heart valves.
  • Maintains records on implantable heart valves for device tracking.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, monitors use of non-disposable equipment associated with perfusion department procedures.
  • Documents all procedures/functions performed.
  • Performs appropriate quality control testing and data collections for equipment and services provided.
  • Maintains records on usage and maintenance of all department equipment.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school in a health science related area.
  • Completion of a formal two year extra-corporeal circulation technology training program.
  • Certification by or eligibility for Certification by a recognized board of cardiovascular perfusion.
  • Computer literate in multiple programs and databases.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience in cardiovascular/perfusion technology.
