The Per Diem Paramedic at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is responsible for providing high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care at the advanced life support level. This role involves safely transporting patients through the Nassau County System, performing patient assessments, documenting medical histories, and ensuring compliance with regional and state protocols. The paramedic will work collaboratively with hospital staff and other providers to deliver exceptional patient care.

  • Perform clinically appropriate patient assessments and treat patients according to NYS DOH BEMS and Nassau County Guidelines.
  • Safely transport patients to the appropriate hospital and transfer care to hospital staff, communicating the patient's condition and treatment rendered.
  • Accurately complete Electronic Pre-hospital Call Reports (e PCR) for every patient contact and for calls dispatched without patient contact.
  • Complete the NYS DOH BEMS Check Out Sheet and document any deficiencies with corrective actions taken.
  • Maintain the Unit Activity Log and submit all forms at the end of the tour.
  • Minimize and document out-of-service time on the Unit Activity Log, making appropriate notifications.
  • Comply with uniform policy and maintain a professional appearance, wearing appropriate identification and personal equipment.
  • Report to work on time and clock in and out according to hospital policy.
  • Comply with Controlled Substance Policies and Procedures as per NYS Department of Health guidelines.
  • Monitor the radio for assignments and communicate promptly with Nassau County Medcom regarding signal status.
  • Adhere to regional NYS DOH BEMS and NYU Langone Hospitals EMS Policies when operating emergency vehicles.
  • Check and maintain the vehicle and equipment at the beginning of each shift, ensuring cleanliness and proper supply levels.
  • Ensure high-quality patient care is provided at all times, both on scene and en route to the hospital.
  • Cooperate with partners and hospital staff to facilitate the delivery of care to patients.
  • Participate in Department, Hospital, and Regional Quality Improvement Programs and attend meetings and training sessions.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of NYS DOH BEMS Approved Paramedic Program.
  • Completion of CEVO III or CEVO IV or EVOC Course.
  • Current and Valid NYS Driver License.
  • NYS DOH BEMS Paramedic Certification.
  • Nassau County REMAC Certification.
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction Certificate.
  • HAZMAT Awareness Certificate.
  • Required to obtain Nassau Regional EMS MAC Certification within 10 days of hire.
  • 6 Months of ambulance experience as a Paramedic.
  • FEMA I S 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
  • 6 Months of 911 ALS experience.
  • Competitive hourly wage of $45.00 per hour.
