The Occupational Therapist reports directly to the Clinical Manager and/ or Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) of their respective department and may receive clinical guidance from senior staff and/or clinical specialists. The Occupational Therapist completes comprehensive examinations of body structure to determine functional impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. The Occupational Therapist establishes diagnosis and prognosis; develops an individualized plan of care; implements treatment interventions; and performs on-going evaluations through-out episode of care. This role involves examining and evaluating patients, establishing diagnosis, prognosis, and individualized plans of care, and implementing treatment interventions based on these plans, considering precautions, indications, and contradictions. The Occupational Therapist directs and coordinates patients’ rehabilitation plans of care, evaluates patient progress, and revises goals and plans accordingly. They are also responsible for educating and training patients and caregivers, anticipating and communicating discharge/home needs and resources, and completing documentation and charges accurately and timely in compliance with department policy. The role includes making recommendations and referrals for additional diagnostic testing and/or services, consistently applying evidence-based practice, and seeking additional guidance when necessary to ensure safe and effective patient care. Compliance with hospital and departmental policies and guidelines is required.
