The Nurse Practitioner will conduct comprehensive physical exams and obtain detailed medical histories. This role involves diagnosing and treating common acute and chronic conditions, including reproductive health issues, and providing medication abortion services along with counseling on STIs, contraception, and pregnancy. The Nurse Practitioner will order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and lab work, offer psychosocial assessments and referrals as needed, and administer first aid, urgent care, and emergency support. Responsibilities also include prescribing medications, educating patients on treatment plans and preventive care, performing minor procedures such as suturing, biopsies, wound care, and immunizations, and maintaining accurate medical records to ensure continuity of care. Collaboration with physicians and healthcare professionals on complex cases is essential, as is adherence to university protocols for quality assurance and infection control. The Nurse Practitioner must stay current on best practices relevant to student health care and may provide lead work direction to specified SHC support staff. Participation in departmental meetings and professional development activities is required, along with supporting SHC operations. The position requires willingness to support both San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campus.
