Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Lactation Specialist. In this role, the successful candidate In this role, the successful candidate will be an expert member of the perinatal health care team who is knowledgeable, skilled and experienced in lactation and breastfeeding management. Provides education, assistance and support to breastfeeding women and infants in accordance to breastfeeding regulatory/professional standards and public health initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree.
Current Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (I.B.L.C.E.).
Minimum of two years lactation consultant experience.
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills and creative problem solving ability.
Weekends and Evenings preferred.

Nice To Haves

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

Educates parents on all aspects of infant feeding and follow ups on high-risk patients assuring all patients have discharge resources to support breastfeeding efforts
Serves as a support and resource for the education of other health professionals.
Assist the full-time lactation consultant to assure all staff are competent in breastfeeding to support expectant and new mothers
Supports Donor Milk program to assure practices are compliant as per regulation
Works collaboratively with FHC and outpatient practices to promote breastfeeding education
Assures all staff are educated on all updated policies
Promotes own professional growth by participation in certification and conferences related to breastfeeding
Assist with the Breast Pump Program including hospital and at home pumps.
Analyzes assessment information to identify concerns and/or problems experienced by the mother and infant by performing complete assessment of the breastfeeding mother and infant
Implements a plan of care for the breastfeeding mother and infant.
Considers the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultures.
Assures compliance with standards and regulations promulgated by all applicable agencies.
Applies research findings that support lactating mothers and/or their breastfeeding babies.
