About The Position
The Group Counselor at GenPsych is responsible for providing therapeutic and recreational group activities and counseling services to clients within assigned caseloads. This role involves conducting psycho-educational groups that focus on various skills such as social and recreational skills, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, substance abuse counseling, creative expressions, stress management, coping skills, and physical activities. The counselor is expected to facilitate a minimum of four therapeutic groups each day, conduct an evening group twice a week, and provide weekend on-call DBT support via phone once a month. In addition to leading group sessions, the Group Counselor must understand and adhere to the organization's health and safety requirements, as well as comply with all GenPsych, Federal, State, and Joint Commission regulations. The counselor will assess clients' learning needs, readiness, and barriers to learning, documenting these assessments appropriately. They will also provide age-appropriate learning opportunities and educational materials tailored to the clients' needs, considering factors such as age, educational level, culture, and disability. The Group Counselor plays a vital role in the treatment team by developing individualized care plans that reflect clients' assessed needs, strengths, preferences, and goals. They will attend multidisciplinary treatment plan meetings, collaborate with team members, and document clients' progress towards their goals in daily progress notes. Participation in departmental meetings, in-services, and other required meetings is also expected. To maintain their expertise, the counselor is encouraged to attend continuing education programs and stay updated in their field of specialization. Other duties and projects may be assigned as needed, and adherence to GenPsych's organizational competencies and standards of behavior is essential.
