About The Position

The City of Westbrook Fire Department is seeking qualified, motivated individuals to join our team as Per Diem Firefighters/EMTs. As a per diem firefighter, you'll be expected to submit at least 12 hours of availability per week, with the possibility of 12- or 24-hour shifts as needed to meet staffing requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (degree in Fire Science, EMS, or related field preferred)
  • Valid Maine Driver's License
  • Maine EMS License (Paramedic preferred)
  • NFPA Firefighter I & II certification (preferred, not required)

Responsibilities

  • Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency calls
  • Perform firefighting and rescue operations including hose deployment, ladder operations, and forcible entry
  • Provide basic and advanced life support for medical emergencies; determine treatment priorities and operate medical equipment
  • Conduct fire safety inspections, maintain hydrants, and enforce code compliance
  • Educate the public on fire prevention, life safety, and emergency preparedness
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain licensure and certifications
  • Assist with investigations of fires, preserving evidence, and observing safety at emergency scenes
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations

  • Paramedic: $29.67 - $36.16 per hour
  • EMT-Advanced: $25.47 - $32.61 per hour
  • EMT-Basic: $24.26 - $31.07 per hour
  • This position is covered by the Fire & Rescue collective bargaining agreement
  • Holiday Incentive Pay available
  • Retirement Program: Defined 457 with employer matching up to 6%
