Job Summary: The Expectant Families Instructor supports the mission of the Families Are First Birthing Center at Bristol Hospital by providing expert-led, evidence-based breastfeeding, basic skills and birthing education to expectant mothers and their support persons. This per diem position is responsible for planning and teaching engaging, informative classes that prepare families for successful breastfeeding experiences, promote maternal confidence, and encourage informed, family-centered decisions.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse degree required, Masters Degree preferred.
  • IBCLC, CLC, or other relevant healthcare or education credentials required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maternal-child health, lactation support, or prenatal education.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with a passion for teaching and empowering families.
  • BLS CPR certification (infant and adult) required or ability to obtain before start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other) preferred.
  • Experience teaching group classes in healthcare or community settings.
  • Comfort with using multimedia and virtual platforms for education delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver interactive education classes for expectant parent(s) and their loved ones.
  • Provide instruction on key topics such as benefits of breathing techniques, birthing education, bathing, dressing, breastfeeding, proper latch and positioning, feeding cues, milk supply, pumping, and addressing common concerns.
  • Create an inclusive, culturally sensitive learning environment that supports all families.
  • Share hospital-based and community support resources with participants.
  • Collaborate with lactation consultants, nursing staff, and childbirth educators to ensure consistency and accuracy of education.
  • Keep teaching materials updated and aligned with AAP, WHO, and CDC guidelines.
  • Record class attendance and participant feedback to support quality improvement efforts.
  • Direct Education & Support: Facilitate support groups, and educate on prenatal health, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and infant nutrition/child development.
  • Community Outreach & Engagement: Organize workshops, attend community events, and provide, information on, programs like "Hear Her" or "Text4Baby".
  • Linkage to Services: Connect families with necessary medical, social, and community, services, particularly for disadvantaged or high-risk populations.
  • Data Collection & Planning: Maintain documentation of services, analyze, community, health needs, and participate in program planning.
