About The Position

The Peoria Shield Advocate is responsible for providing culturally aware services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and/or stalking. This position will provide direct services to survivors and their dependents seeking safety from abuse. This advocate will also work towards completion of program goals.

Requirements

  • Must possess a High School Diploma.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in social service-related field or equivalent Tribal experience.
  • Experience in the setting of Case Management, Family Services, Social Work, Public Health, or Life Coaching is preferred.
  • Candidate is familiar with local community resources.
  • Must strictly adhere to the confidentiality and HIPAA policies.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form is required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete files and data collection documentations.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to Reason: Must be ablet o confront and solve basic practical issues and problems.
  • Proficiency with computers and programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurance.
  • Must submit to and pass applicable drug test, TB test, and Physical.
  • Must pass background investigations for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, and Child Care and Development Fund, 45 C.F.R. § 98.43(a)(2).
  • Adhere to all work rules, policies & procedures, and safety standards.
  • Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, or bending, lifting, or carrying up to 50 pounds daily. Work is generally performed in an office environment with varying levels of lighting, air quality, noise, and / or temperature.
  • Work is typically completed during Peoria Shield office hours but may occasionally vary based on departmental needs. Weekends and evenings may be required at times to meet departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Completing intake and advocacy for survivors who qualify for Peoria Shield Services
  • Attend continued and advanced trainings on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and advocacy.
  • Provide direct services to survivors including but not limited to; transportation, accompaniment to medical appointments/court hearings/police interviews/etc., assisting in survivors obtaining needed emergency items to meet their basic needs (food, shelter, clothes, medication, etc.), safety planning, support in requested behavior and life changes.
  • Build and maintain good working relationship with community partners
  • Refer survivors to service providers who can meet their needs, if/when Peoria Shield is not.
  • Maintain confidential records of each survivor provided with advocacy, in a manner that can be tracked and provided for grant reporting purposes.
  • Work with Program Manager to continually learn and modify Peoria Shield to best meet the needs of the community with the guidelines outlined by all grants.
  • Work with Program Manager to update program policies and procedures when appropriate
  • Actively participate in outreach and educational program events.
  • Work with Program Manager to locate, obtain, or create educational materials for support groups
  • Attend monthly SART/CCR, RISE, MDT, and CPT meetings when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned
