The Safety Intern will support the People Safety team in ensuring a safe work environment by assisting with safety programs, compliance initiatives, training, and audits. This hands-on role provides valuable experience in workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation within a fast-paced food manufacturing setting. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regulations and standards, particularly those relevant to the food manufacturing industry such as OSHA, FDA, and USDA.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with employees at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with safety management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update safety documentation, including training records, SDS sheets, and compliance reports.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of safety training for employees on topics such as LOTO, personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard communication, and emergency response procedures.
  • Assist in ergonomic assessments and recommend improvements to enhance workplace safety.
  • Support the implementation of safety initiatives such as behavior-based safety programs and employee engagement activities.
  • Monitor and track key safety metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and safety drills.
  • Stay up to date on regulatory requirements and best practices in occupational safety.
