About The Position

OpenLoop is looking for a People Partner, R&D to join our team remotely or at HQ in Des Moines, IA. In this role, you will be the dedicated HR point of contact for our engineering, product, and data teams. You will work closely with R&D managers and individual contributors to foster a high-performance culture, resolve employee relations matters, and ensure our technical talent has the support they need to innovate. You are the advocate for our R&D staff, helping them navigate their careers while keeping our internal operations running smoothly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 2+ years specifically supporting engineering, product, or data science teams.
  • Deep understanding of HR disciplines including employee relations, organizational design, and performance management.
  • Experience supporting fast-paced, high-growth, or startup environments; healthcare or tech experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and influencing skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Analytical and data-driven, using insights to guide decisions and shape people strategy.
  • Tech-savvy, adaptable, and excited to build scalable people programs in a growing digital health organization.
  • Passionate about enabling high-performing teams and cultivating a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Nice To Haves

  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for R&D employees and managers on all things people-related, providing timely guidance on policies, benefits, and workplace concerns.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching to R&D leads on performance management, delivering constructive feedback, and navigating difficult conversations.
  • Support the implementation of R&D-specific people initiatives, including competency mapping, leveling updates, and technical compensation reviews.
  • Drive engagement and retention efforts tailored to technical teams, ensuring a culture of innovation and collaboration remains strong as we scale.
  • Manage the employee lifecycle for R&D, from tailored technical onboarding to exit interviews, identifying trends that impact turnover or engagement.
  • Analyze people metrics (e.g., pulse surveys, turnover data) to provide actionable insights to R&D leadership regarding team health.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and Finance to ensure smooth headcount tracking and resource allocation for engineering and product teams
  • Other duties as assigned.
