People Operations Generalist

Vero NetworksDenver, CO
1d$90,000 - $110,000Remote

About The Position

As we scale the Vero Fiber Networks team from 50 to 70+ employees this year, we are looking for our first full-time dedicated People Operations leader to build upon the current foundation to continue to improve our employee experience. You will be the architect of our People function. There is no "this is how we've always done it" here. We are continuing a phase of rapid scaling and your role will evolve as the company grows. This role is responsible for the entire function of People Operations and HR at Vero Fiber Networks. While this role is a “Department of One” internally, it will also have access to corporate People Operations and sister-company People Operations teams and resources. This individual will handle everything from recruiting support and onboarding to payroll and compliance, along with acting as the strategic co-pilot to our leadership team. The ideal candidate will be able to manage day-to-day tasks but also think broadly and strategically. Much of the work done within the organization is focused on managing large scale fiber infrastructure projects, so a People Operations professional with experience working with project managers who build tangible projects will be helpful. The majority of the team consists of remote office-based roles, with a minimal amount of on-the-ground management.

Requirements

  • You have been a "Department of One" or managed all aspects of people operations for a small team before. You don’t need a separate group to handle benefits or a recruiter to screen resumes—you are happy to roll up your sleeves and do it yourself.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR/People Operations experience.
  • Experience supporting a distributed/remote workforce across multiple US time zones.
  • Solid understanding of multi-state employment law and payroll compliance.
  • Basic knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA) and workers' compensation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Leaders: Act as a coach and advisor to our leaders at all levels of the organization. You understand the high-pressure nature of scale up businesses and can help navigate performance management, burnout, and recruiting.
  • Culture & Remote Engagement: Maintain a cohesive culture and support leaders in team building for a dispersed workforce. This could mean coaching and advising leaders on best practices or maintaining a list of potential activities for managers to utilize during their team building efforts.
  • Recruiting Support: Manage the recruiting process from posting to offer letter as a support to the Hiring Manager. Develop best practices and trainings to improve hiring practices across the organization. Assist in resume reviews as time allows.
  • The Full Employee Lifecycle: Own the employee journey from offer letter to exit interview. You are the People Ops/HR department, so you must be comfortable handling onboarding, offboarding, and everything in between.
  • HR Tech Stack: Manage our HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration. You ensure the trains run on time and everyone gets paid correctly.
  • Multi-State Compliance: Manage the complexities of having employees in multiple states, including tax setups, unemployment registrations, and adhering to local labor laws.
  • Safety Liaison: While you aren't a Safety Manager, you will support safety compliance. This includes tracking certifications, managing workers' comp claims, and ensuring our safety policies are up to date and communicated.
  • Policy & Handbook: Work alongside the corporate team to update and maintain our employee handbook and people operations policies.

Benefits

  • Paid life insurance
  • Short-term disability insurance
  • Paid medical plans
  • PTO
  • Holidays
  • Dental and vision options.
  • 401(k) with match
  • Target annual bonus for this role is 15%.
