About The Position

The People & Belonging Director is responsible for managing and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. This role involves providing leadership and direction to create a more inclusive community, supporting the Manager, Mayor & Commission, and staff in all areas related to diversity and outreach. The position requires strategic planning, community engagement, policy development, and administrative oversight to ensure compliance with relevant laws and to promote equity across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business, Education, Social Work, or related field.
• Five years of related leadership experience in project/process management and organizational leadership.
• Four years of supervisory experience.
• Valid driver's license required; Master's degree preferred.
• Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) or related diversity certification preferred.

• Knowledge of public policy development and implementation.
• Experience in community engagement and outreach initiatives.
• Proficiency in data analysis and visualization for equity initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
• Provide leadership and direction to support measures that promote a just and inclusive community.
• Develop and implement strategic initiatives for diversity, equity, and inclusion (IDE) within the Unified Government.
• Collaborate with community stakeholders to advance IDE initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to diversity and inclusion.
• Develop and implement IDE training programs for staff and community leaders.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, managing employee concerns and performance evaluations.
• Research and apply for grant opportunities to support IDE initiatives.
