The Penetrant Operator Level II (NDT) is responsible for conducting non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections using liquid penetrant testing (LPT) methods. This role involves setting up equipment, performing inspections, interpreting results, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Level II operator evaluates and documents test results, collaborates with internal teams to ensure the quality of aerospace components, and supports the development of Level I operators.

  • Perform Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) on aerospace components in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
  • Set up and calibrate LPT equipment and ensure that all testing equipment is properly maintained and functioning correctly.
  • Apply pre-cleaning and post-cleaning procedures to ensure components are prepared for accurate testing.
  • Inspect parts for defects such as cracks, porosity, and discontinuities, following industry standards like ASTM E1417 and MIL-STD-1907.
  • Interpret and evaluate test results, ensuring compliance with applicable quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Document and maintain accurate inspection records, including test reports, certifications, and non-conformance reports.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to verify that components meet or exceed customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and handle chemicals used in the penetrant testing process safely.
  • Participate in equipment calibration and periodic maintenance to ensure the reliability of testing processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to Level I Penetrant Operators and assist in their professional development.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to the NDT process, focusing on enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Level II certification in Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) according to ASNT-TC-1A or NAS 410 required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in penetrant testing or related NDT methods.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, technical data, and testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of NDT standards, codes, and regulations such as ASTM, ASME, and MIL-STD requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of liquid penetrant testing procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with NDT industry standards, codes, and specifications such as ASME, ASTM, NAS 410, and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of the aerospace industry and its quality and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations related to handling chemicals used in the penetrant process.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure NC programs are accurate and result in high-quality machined components.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues related to machining, tooling, and program optimization.
  • Technical Communication: Clear communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, machinists, and quality control personnel.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple programming projects, meeting deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
