Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough evaluations of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction, including but not limited to: Urinary and fecal incontinence
  • Pelvic pain syndromes
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Prenatal and postpartum conditions
  • Post-surgical pelvic dysfunction (e.g., hysterectomy, prostatectomy, colorectal surgery)
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based plans of care
  • Utilize internal and external pelvic floor assessment and treatment techniques in accordance with training, consent, and hospital policy
  • Provide patient education related to anatomy, bladder/bowel health, posture, breathing, and lifestyle modification
  • Monitor patient progress and modify interventions as clinically indicated
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, urologists, urogynecologists, colorectal surgeons, and other healthcare providers
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and case conferences as appropriate
  • Communicate effectively with referring providers regarding patient progress and outcomes
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with hospital, payer, and regulatory standards
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and professional practice standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and outcome tracking
  • Stay current with evidence-based practice related to pelvic health physical therapy
  • Participate in continuing education, in-services, and competency validation
  • May assist in clinical education of students, residents, or new staff
