About The Position

Amae Health is looking for a passionate Peer Support Specialist to join us in providing exceptional care for complex adult members. This is a full-time, on-site position at our soon-to-open Charlotte, North Carolina clinic. As a Peer Support Specialist at Amae, you’ll play a vital role in empowering members throughout their care journey. Drawing from your own lived experience, you’ll serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate, helping members set meaningful goals, build confidence, and develop the skills to live healthy, purposeful lives. You’ll work in-person, meeting members where they are, whether in the clinic, hospital, or their homes, to offer guidance, connection, and hope. By fostering trust and building authentic relationships, you’ll help members navigate health and social service systems, connect with community resources, and feel supported every step of the way.

Requirements

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of stable, personal recovery
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges
  • Strong coaching and motivational skills, with the ability to support individuals through challenges, navigate conflict, and model effective coping and communication strategies
  • Ability to engage effectively one-on-one and in groups; group facilitation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the Charlotte area mental health and social service systems
  • Understanding of member rights, confidentiality, and trauma-informed care
  • Holistic approach to health and wellness
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams
  • Basic computer proficiency (Google Suite, EHR documentation, etc)

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one coaching to support members’ personal goals, inspire self-discovery, and strengthen skills for recovery.
  • Plan and lead group activities that encourage participation, build community, and celebrate progress (e.g., in-clinic recovery groups, community outings, day trips).
  • Help members access and navigate community resources, including housing, SNAP benefits, employment services, and other social resources and support.
  • Conduct field work in the community, including home check-ins, attending events with members as a supportive peer, and providing encouragement and companionship outside the clinic setting.
  • Collaborate with teammates and clinical staff to ensure every member receives compassionate, coordinated support.
  • Complete required administrative tasks and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision to support your growth and maintain program quality.
  • Attend team meetings and case discussions to share insights and strengthen collaboration.
