About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist will provide wellness and recovery based education, coaching, and support to individuals to promote symptom management, life skills, and recovery goal achievement. Successful Candidate will have: Facilitate individual and group engagement in activities to promote wellness, recovery, and goal achievement. Assist individuals to identify and communicate preferences for treatment, motivation for change, and plans for the future. Provide assistance to individuals in accessing necessary mental or physical health care, including accompanying individuals to appointments to encourage active participation, self advocacy, and empowerment to best meet needs for health and wellness. Provide assistance to individuals in accessing a variety of public services including financial, housing, and helping to meet needs for food, shelter, and clothing. Assist individuals in accessing and utilizing a variety of community agencies and resources to provide ongoing social, educational, vocational and recreational resources and activities. Coach and support individuals and groups to advance daily living skills, including housekeeping, cooking, personal grooming, accessing transportation, budgeting, paying bills and maintaining and independent residence. Assist individuals to create personal support systems that may include engagement with family members, legal guardians or significant others regarding the needs and abilities of an identified person. Providing support to families in areas such as treatment planning, dissemination of information, linking to services and parent guidance. Completes all documentation required for successful reimbursement of services and maintains documentation that meets Health Center and payer requirements. Assist clients in coordinating appointments, completion and submission of forms, receipts and other similar activities. Peer Specialist will keep record of contacts with clients, family or community resources, specifically related to interventions. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D Required
  • Applicants must have experience with successful maintenance of recovery lifestyle for at least one year.
  • Applicants must have direct exposure and experience with mental resources in the community.
  • Ability to help others advocate for themselves and motivate individuals to act on their own behalf.
