About The Position

As our Certified Peer Support Specialist on our Durham County team, you will provide individualized, strengths focused community-based interactions with assigned caseload for the purpose of promoting the development of wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping skills, and self-advocacy skills and development of independent living skills for housing, employment, and full community inclusion. Founded in 1970, SouthLight Healthcare is one of the area's largest and long-established nonprofit providers of substance use treatment and mental health services. With outpatient and community-based programs, SouthLight provides prevention, education and treatment services in the Triangle and beyond. SouthLight has multiple office locations throughout the Triangle area, serving more than 9,000 clients each year. Services include adult outpatient counseling, Intensive Outpatient Program, Psychiatric Services and Medication Management, Opioid Treatment Program, Court Deferral Program, Peer Support Services, Family Centered Treatment, Community Support Team and a residential treatment program for women and children and more. Requirements

  • Current Peer Support Certification (we can help you obtain upon hire!)
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Min of 1 year working with the adult Mental Health/Substance Use population, preferably in a community setting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Health Records
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to frequent change in work flow based on client need and service structure

Responsibilities

  • Promotes independent living skills through modeling, feedback, support to individuals around housing needs
  • Assist clients with self-determination and decision-making
  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness
  • Teach and promote self-advocacy and wellness management
  • Provide linkage to community resources
  • Maintain and submit required documentation (treatment plans, WRAP, service notes, service authorization requests)

  • Full-time employees are eligible for medical benefits the first of the month 30 days after hire date.
