About The Position

Excelsior Wellness Center, a subsidiary of Excelsior Wellness, serves a broad and diverse base of individuals and families with the primary aim of identifying goals and making positive steps toward accomplishing them. In our community, we are advocates and hold fast to the belief that children and families have the potential to be safer, stronger, and more satisfied in the lives they lead. Excelsior Wellness Center is looking for a Peer Specialist to join our treatment team and who has a passion for behavioral health and serving our community.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of experience working and/or volunteering directly with youth.
  • Certified Peer Counselor in Washington State or enrolled in a Peer Support Training program with completion expected within 6 months of hire.
  • Personal lived experience receiving behavioral health services as a youth or caregiver.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Able to pass criminal background check.
  • Ability to obtain challenge course certification as needed to maintain and facilitate onsite challenge course activities.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience facilitating groups or activities with youth preferred.
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy, trauma-informed care, or youth mental health EBPs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate respite groups and/or individual services for youth, incorporating elements of emotional regulation, social skills, self-expression, and wellness providing hands-on instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with the mental health therapist and certified recreational therapist to plan and deliver group activities aligned with individual and group needs.
  • Share personal lived experience in a way that fosters hope, empowerment, and connection for youth and caregivers.
  • Assist with the preparation of group materials and supplies, including setup and cleanup of group spaces.
  • Model healthy coping strategies, boundaries, and peer relationships in all interactions.
  • Support youth during group transitions and help manage emotional dysregulation and crisis situations as needed.
  • Document service delivery accurately and in compliance with organizational and industry standards.
  • Attend team meetings, individual supervision, and training as required.
  • Provide input and feedback on programming through a peer-informed lens.
  • Adheres to ethical standards, agency policy and procedures and Excelsior mission, vision, and values.
  • Assists in other areas as determined by program needs and delegated by direct supervisor.
