General Summary: The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a member advocate, providing information and peer support for members in outpatient settings. The PSS performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process recovery resources such as books, tapes, pamphlets and other written materials will be utilized by PSS in the provision of services.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Peer Support Certification from Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) or another approved provider.
  • Minimum Experience Required: Past personal experience within the behavioral health system or child welfare system required.
  • Minimum 21years of age.
  • Able to pass a minimum 5 panel drug test & submit to regular screening.
  • DPS Level I fingerprint clearance (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
  • Maintain a clear Central Registry Background Check.
  • CPR, First Aid, (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
  • Current, valid Arizona Driver's License and 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration liability insurance to meet insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes a strengths-based approach along with personal experiences while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with members.
  • Provides members an example of what they can strive for in their recovery and instills the belief that recovery is real and possible.
  • Must be able to understand and implement individual treatment plan goals by providing behavioral health covered peer support services to members.
  • Works with various community organizations and resources to provide additional support for members, particularly as they transition from recovery back into the general community.
  • Conducts individual and group services.
  • Transports members to locations in the community as needed for service delivery, using a motor vehicle.
  • Maintains required vehicle documentation; maintains cleanliness and maintenance protocols for agency vehicles.
  • Completes progress notes, incident reports and other data sheets within the required timeframe.
  • Attends ART’s when required; attends regularly scheduled Team Meetings, supervisions and other meetings as required.
  • Completes all training required by licensing and/or agency, or as requested by supervisor.
  • Maintain and submit detailed data required for management of opioid grant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary as they relate to the general nature of the position.
