About The Position

The Mobile Crisis Peer Support Specialist provides prompt strength-based assessment and crisis response to persons in the community with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. This position works with children, adults, and families experiencing crisis symptoms that put them at great risk for hospitalization or other higher out of home levels of care. Services provided are typically time-limited and involve crisis intervention. Serves as a fully integrated team member of the Mobile Crisis Team to provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by clients. Service provision will focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Past or present consumer of mental health or substance abuse services with a history of sufficient progression toward recovery.
  • Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with a mental illness or addictions problem.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to interact with various types of people.
  • A sound understanding of mental health and/or substance abuse problems and treatments.
  • Personal traits that include: patience, tolerance, caring, maturity, and understanding.

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience working directly with people in a service-oriented field is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of crisis intervention tactics.
  • Provide individualized, guidance, coaching, and support.
  • Share knowledge of community resources.
  • Assist in developing Person-Centered Crisis/Safety Plans.
  • Work in cooperation with other Mobile Crisis Team members in the client’s care.
  • Complete after-care contact to check-in on client progress and remind them of upcoming appointments.
  • Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and when dealing with external agencies and/or individuals.
  • Be responsible for understanding client rights and policy and procedures.
  • Participate in staff training and development.
  • Maintain professional standards at all times and observe guidelines established within the Code of Ethics and Conduct
  • Remain in compliance of Kentucky regulation 908 KAR 2:220 for Adult Peer Support regarding training, continuing education, and supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Participation in MCT meetings, as well as weekly supervision.
