About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist utilizes personal experiences to collaborate with, coach and challenge clients to view their life situations as an opportunity for growth and change within each individual’s recovery. The incumbent provides highly individualized services in the community, promoting individual self-determination and decision-making to individuals with Mental Health or Substance Abuse issues.

  • Minnesota driver’s license required
  • To be employed as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Level II, an individual must meet all the qualifications of a Certified Peer Specialist Level I and meet one or more of the following: Qualify as a Mental Health Practitioner as defined by the Minnesota Dept of Human Services (4-year human service degree plus 2000 hours supervised mental health experience, or a Master’s degree in Human Services, or 4000 hours supervised mental health experience), Have at least 6000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of peer services to persons with mental illness, Have at least 4000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness and an additional 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of peer services to persons with mental illness, Be felony free for at least one year, have no active order for protections, and pass the required background check, One year freedom of chemical usage problems, Philosophical approach consistent with Range Mental Health Center’s mission

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and/or group peer support for the people we serve in rehabilitation programs
  • Complete documentation for peer support program in timely fashion
  • Complete ARMHS paperwork, such as: treatment plans, functional assessments as assigned.
  • Assist the people we serve in making progress on treatment plan goals
  • Coordinate and refer services as needed for the people we serve to maintain their optimal level of functioning
  • Act as an advocate for the people we serve
  • Assist the people we serve in obtaining and maintaining their benefits
  • Provide crisis assistance as needed
  • Support, assist, enable the people we serve to develop and enhance stability, competencies, personal/emotional adjustments and independent living and community skills
  • Mentor new and level I peer support specialists about non-clinical concerns
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly peer support meeting
  • Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary employee meetings, minimum of 1 time per month or as required
  • Attend required individual supervision meetings
  • Provide program transportation as needed
  • Complete continuing education training of at least 30 hours every two years in areas of mental health recovery, mental health rehabilitative services and peer support
  • Comply with all pertinent regulatory and statutory requirements, and all RMHC policies
  • Other duties as assigned
