Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must possess Peer Support Specialist certification or complete an AMH approved Peer Support Specialist training program and become certified within six (6) months.
  • Must have a vehicle for personal transportation to/from sessions in the community and a valid driver’s license in the state where assigned with required auto insurance in the coverage amounts of 100/300/100.
  • Has experience as a current or former behavioral health services consumer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized support to youth enrolled in the Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment (IIBHT) program.
  • Meet with youth to build personal relationships, support healthy social involvement with others, assist with planning and problem-solving, and model a healthy lifestyle.
  • Utilize direct experience with receiving behavioral health services to support youth and reduce the impact of a behavioral health disorder.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team that includes family support partner and clinical staff.
  • Meet with family within one week of intake to introduce peer support role and identify ways to provide support.
  • Provide phone and email support along with in-person meetings for youth, occurring once weekly.
  • Schedule sessions and meet with youth at a convenient location for the youth and family.
  • Structure sessions based on youth’s needs and identified goals, leveraging strengths and normalizing help-seeking behavior.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule that accommodates youth and families, often working non-traditional hours.
  • Coordinate with the assigned clinical specialist on needs, barriers, and progress.
  • Consult with the specialist when any clinical needs or high-risk safety needs are identified.
  • Discharge youth from Peer Support once program outcomes have been achieved.
  • Complete documentation as required within the Youth Villages Electronic Health Record.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and ongoing training as assigned.
