The Peer Support Counselor position at the Victorville: High Desert Crisis Walk In Center is crucial in our mission to improve mental healthcare. The position has primary responsibility for using their lived experience and knowledge of the system to provide outreach and engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all age ranges. Peer Support Counselors serve as role models, companions, educators, and advocates to our clients, supporting them in moving toward recovery and creating a meaningful role in their life, separate from their illness.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HiSET, etc.) required.
• Personal experience as a consumer in the child welfare, probation, or mental health systems.
• Peer Support Specialist Certification preferred, or successful completion of the certification process within one year of employment.
• Must possess a valid CA driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the company driver eligibility policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide outreach and engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all age ranges.
• Utilize lived experience in the mental health, judicial, and/or social service systems to assist clients.
• Serve as role models, companions, educators, and advocates.
• Support clients in moving toward recovery and creating a meaningful role in their life.
