About The Position

Gratiot Integrated Health Network (GIHN) has an immediate opening for a full-time Peer Support and Recovery Specialist. The Peer Support and Recovery Specialist is responsible for co-facilitating the person-centered planning process and assisting with services and support in the broader community, under the supervision of the Community Supports Program Supervisor. Peer Recovery trained staff must be in active recovery for a minimum of two years, sought treatment from a Community Mental Health Agency and have developed the skills required to utilize what they have learned from their own recovery to help GIHN consumers move toward their own recovery. Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be an individual in a journey of recovery who has a serious mental illness who is now receiving or has received services from the public mental health system. [This is a requirement for any Peer Support Specialist certified after July 1, 2011.] Because of their life experience, they provide expertise that professional disciplines cannot replicate.
  • Individuals employed as Peer Support Specialists serving beneficiaries with mental illness must meet MDHHS specialized training and certification requirements.
  • Peer Support Specialists who assist in the provision of a covered service must be trained and supervised by the qualified provider of that service.
  • Peer Support Specialists who provide covered services without supervision must meet the specific provider qualifications.
  • The candidate must maintain documentation to agency and professional standards.
  • A valid Michigan Driver’s License is required to operate an agency vehicle or to transport consumers.
  • Candidates must meet successful clearance of criminal and driving background checks.
  • Employment offers are contingent upon the results of a Michigan State Police Check and/or Criminal Background Check.
  • Candidates may be excluded from consideration based upon driving record.
  • Candidates applying for professional positions must submit college or university transcripts verifying degree, copy of State of Michigan credentials, and a copy of diploma if required.

  • Preferred candidates will be, or will be eligible to obtain, a Peer Support Recovery Coach certification.
