About The Position

As a Peer Specialist, you will act as an ambassador to the program by welcoming, providing orientation, and engaging prospective clients to the program. You will utilize your experiences as a recipient of mental health services to enhance recovery efforts of clients within the program. The role involves promoting and modeling the concept of recovery to program participants, serving as a member of the multidisciplinary team, and sharing practical insight related to illness management, life skills, and the lifelong recovery process. You may also act as an advocate for the client when appropriate and assist clients by driving to appointments, benefits applications, and assessing social service needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • At least one year of work experience.
  • Experience as a person who has received mental health services or has a close family member that has received mental health services is required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required and must be kept current during employment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to navigate stairs as the program is housed in a two-story building without an elevator.
  • Ability to pass criminal/background clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist through CalMHSA strongly preferred; required within 90 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience working in mental health services is an advantage.
