About The Position

EAC Network, a leading not-for-profit social service agency dedicated to helping over 79,000 people through 100 impactful programs across Long Island and NYC, is looking for a dedicated full time Peer Specialist to join our Alternatives for Youth program. Wage: $19 per hour Schedule: Mon, Tues, 8:30am-4:30pm, Wed & Thursday 11am-7pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm ET Location: 320 Carleton Ave in Central Islip, NY What drives the core purpose of this job: The Peer Specialist is responsible for providing peer support to families and assisting the Case Management unit in all aspects of its operations in the Alternatives for Youth (AFY) Program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or educational equivalent required. Persons in recovery must have a minimum of three years sobriety as per funder requirements.
  • Working knowledge of criminal justice issues, mental illness, substance abuse and/or adolescent behavior preferred.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
  • Must have access to automobile and possess valid New York State driver’s license.
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support including home visits, telephone reassurance, advocacy and encouragement for clients support to families in crisis struggling with problems such as substance abuse and mental illness.
  • Provide transportation for our Teen Enrichment Program and for clients in need of emergency resources.
  • Assist with facilitating Teen Enrichment workshops and adolescent groups.
  • Design engaging and informative flyers for our Teen Enrichment Program.
  • Post flyers and related content on our social media platforms.
  • Provide individualized mentoring support focusing on their personal, educational and emotional development as per Director.
  • Complete written reports and progress notes in a timely manner regarding clients’ progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences and required training.
  • Perform all other relevant duties as determined by Supervision and EAC NETWORK Administration.
