About The Position

The Peer Specialist position involves outreach and engagement with participants and families in Harlem/Bronx and surrounding communities. The role includes facilitating community awareness of S:US services, advocating for treatment options, and building meaningful relationships with individuals through empathy and shared experiences. Peer Specialists will also combat overdose by training and distributing Naloxone kits, co-create wellness tools with participants, and influence team culture positively. The position requires maintaining open communication with the team and documenting visits with program participants.

Requirements

  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (or Provisional) Certification required.
  • Understanding of the community and available resources.
  • Experience in personal recovery and progress toward it.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to empathize.
  • Two years of active participation in substance use/mental health self-help activities.
  • Ability to disclose recovery story for empowerment purposes.
  • Excellent judgment and understanding of boundaries.
  • Willingness to adhere to on-call cell phone system for crisis intervention.
  • Significant travel to engage clients, requiring 75% travel.
