About The Position

Be the voice of hope and lived experience—empowering youth to discover their strengths and build a path toward wellness. As a Youth Peer Specialist, you will use your lived experience and training to support youth ages 13–25 navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges. In this meaningful role, you’ll help young people recognize their strengths, build resilience, and connect to services and natural supports within their communities. As part of our mission to Inspire Hope. Promote Wellness. , you’ll walk alongside youth as they define their goals and move toward recovery and independence. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about youth advocacy, believes deeply in the power of lived experience, and wants to make a direct, positive impact in rural communities where access to care can be limited.

Requirements

  • High School/GED required
  • Must self-identify as a current former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services
  • Must complete a state approved training program and pass a standardized examination complete certification process within 90 days of hire date and must maintain ongoing certification as a Certified Youth Specialist through MCB (MO)
  • A valid driver’s license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required

Responsibilities

  • Support youth in building networks of information, support, and community connection
  • Use strategic sharing of lived experience to promote resilience, self-advocacy, and skill development
  • Conduct outreach to engage youth in services and reduce barriers to care
  • Connect youth to professional and personal development opportunities, support groups, and community resources
  • Provide encouragement and support during crises or pivotal life moments
  • Empower youth to make informed, independent choices and take an active role in their treatment
  • Identify and build upon each youth’s strengths and personal resources
  • Collaborate as a member of the treatment team, contributing to Wellness Plans and care decisions
  • Educate families, providers, and stakeholders on the value of authentic youth voice in treatment planning
  • Complete required documentation and actively participate in meetings and team activities
  • Drive as needed to support outreach and service delivery
