About The Position

The Peer Specialist is a vital member of the treatment team who uses their lived experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges to engage, support, and inspire hope in clients receiving outpatient behavioral health services, including those experiencing First Episode Psychosis (FEP). Through authentic, mutual relationships, the Peer Specialist walks alongside clients as they navigate recovery, systems of care, and personal goals. This role involves engaging clients in services, advocating for their needs, and connecting them to formal and informal supports in the community. The Peer Specialist helps clients build coping skills, highlight strengths, and develop pathways toward wellness, education, employment, and meaningful community participation. Working collaboratively with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams, the Peer Specialist promotes recovery-oriented, person-centered care while supporting young people and adults as they move toward goals of their choosing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, completion of G.E.D.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use with 2+ years of sustained recovery required.
  • Candidates must not be on probation or parole and must have remained free of any new criminal charges for a minimum of two full years.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required at certain locations.
  • Must complete training in SAHMSA Peer Core Competencies and COPA code of ethics prior to meeting with clients. (Training is included during the onboarding process).
  • Must obtain Colorado Peer Certification (CPFS) through COPA (Colorado Practitioners Association) within 1 year of employment. All trainings, experience hours, and payment for this certification are provided in-house.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing your life experience from your personal journey of recovery of addiction and/or mental health challenges will perform direct client care for clients needing peer support services.
  • Providing direct client care through individual and group sessions face to face, phone or telehealth contact.
  • Services will be community based and centered around client's recovery goals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical health records and have knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion with the relevant ability to engage, communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people of different backgrounds, identities, and culturally diverse communities.
