About The Position

The Peer Recovery Supporter plays a vital role in assisting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance use disorders. In this capacity, they function as role models, mentors, advocates, and motivators for those in recovery, aiming to prevent relapse and foster sustained recovery. The Peer Recovery Supporter is expected to effectively share personal recovery experiences and cultivate genuine peer-to-peer relationships.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have lived experience and an identified specialty in substance abuse based on upon the lived experience.
  • 2 years of experience as a peer supporter preferably.
  • Certified through OhioMHAS as a peer supporter.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide recovery education to individuals for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Assist clients in identifying their personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  • Model behaviors and attitudes that reflect hope.
  • Assist clients in developing and advancing their recovery plan.
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting individuals in expressing their voice, needs, goals and objectives.
  • Assist individuals in developing connections to community-based services, mutual self-help groups and necessary professional resources.
  • Assist individuals in identifying barriers that impact recovery while developing strategies to overcome the barriers.
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery by offering one-to-one and group services.
  • Identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, support and resources to aid them in achieving their goals.
  • Using tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist individuals in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.
  • Learning and using problem solving techniques.
  • Encourage use of ongoing individual and group supports information to learn how to identify and calm negative self-talk and fear-based thinking.
  • Supporting individuals in their vocational choices
  • Upon discharge from the program, maintain contact by in-person, phone and/or e-mail with the client to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support if needed.
  • Enter documentation into each client’s Electronic Health Record as defined by agency standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
