Peer Recovery Specialist, START Program

The Peer Recovery Specialist for the START Program is a vital role focused on providing support to mothers with substance use disorders and their children within the community. This full-time position operates primarily Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with flexibility required for evening recovery meetings as needed. Under the supervision of the Site Manager, the Peer Recovery Specialist will engage in outreach to community-based organizations and potential or current outpatient clients, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and resources for their recovery journey. In this role, the Peer Recovery Specialist will conduct client eligibility screenings and provide informal peer-to-peer counseling. They will also assist clinicians in delivering case management services and connecting clients to recovery supports. A significant aspect of the position involves implementing evidence-based interventions, such as the Brazleton Touchpoints approach, to promote healthy development in parent-child relationships. The Peer Recovery Specialist will also utilize the Nurtured Heart Approach and the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) interventions in all outpatient activities, aiming to create a safe and supportive environment for clients. Performance standards for this position include demonstrating behaviors consistent with the organization's mission and core values, maintaining positive working relationships, and actively participating in safety programs. The Peer Recovery Specialist will be expected to model recovery processes, engage at-risk individuals, and assist them in identifying personal goals and interests. They will also conduct outreach activities, maintain accurate records, and provide transportation to recovery meetings as needed. Overall, this role is essential in fostering a supportive community for individuals in recovery and ensuring they have access to the resources necessary for their journey.
