The Peer Recovery Mentor at Kennesaw State University plays a crucial role in supporting students in recovery from substance use disorders. This position involves providing peer mentoring, administrative support, and educational programs aimed at promoting recovery and preventing substance misuse within a collegiate environment. The mentor will assist in marketing and social media campaigns related to opioid use education and serve as a liaison for students seeking recovery support.

  • Provide peer support to an assigned cohort of students in recovery from opioid use, substance misuse, and addictive behaviors.
  • Present peer education curriculum and naloxone training to prevent opioid and substance misuse, and relapse.
  • Assist recovery program coordinators in responding to student inquiries and connecting students with appropriate personnel regarding issues such as financial aid, personal concerns, and housing.
  • Provide peer support regarding personal, academic, and social sober needs, including self-awareness, life skills, goal-setting, and sober events.
  • Support the development of marketing materials to promote addiction and recovery programs on campus and on various social media platforms.
  • Assist in tracking and analyzing key metrics to assess the impact of the program.
  • Maintain timely and complete records of the student cohort in electronic records.
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising and volunteer coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Public Health, Health Education, Communications/Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Current, valid unrestricted driver's license.
  • CARES (Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist) or eligible within three months of employment.
  • One year of addiction/recovery experience in a higher education setting or related field, including internship, student assistantship, or graduate assistantship experience.
  • Lived experience in recovery, evidence of recovery quality, and experience with sponsorship or mentorship.
  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution in psychology, public health, health education, communications/public relations, or a related field.
  • Previous work experience in a university setting.
  • Intermediate experience with social media platforms including Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
