The Peer Recovery Coach provides non-clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery from high risk of dependant alcohol and drug use problems. The Peer Recovery Coach will work as part of the Emergency Department to provide peer support and motivation to encourage patients who are seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues. The Peer Recovery Coach will assist in completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services. Services will be provided in the Emergency Department and on the admitting floors, if the patient is admitted to the hospital and will include appropriate follow-up.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Certified through the Maryland Addiction Professional Board, or within 18 months of hire.
  • Participates in continuing education programs.
  • Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Meditech (if applicable to position)
  • Epic (if applicable to position)
  • Performance Manager/NetLearning
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • The candidate must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with a minimum of two years demonstrated personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use.
  • Must be able to read, interpret documents and write routine reports.
  • Peer Recovery Coach must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to relate to patients and health professionals.
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and an interest in acquiring new skills.
