About The Position

This position serves as a personal guide, and liaison for individuals with substance use disorders identified in WVU Health System affiliated treatment settings. The recovery coach supports patients by assisting them with identifying treatment needs, developing, maintaining, and monitoring individualized treatment plans, and supporting patients to remain in treatment. The recovery coach’s duties include providing outreach, support, recovery check-ups on site in treatment settings, in the community and functioning as part of a treatment team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of state or nationally recognized Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification training with a minimum of 40 hours total in the following domains: Ethics, Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, and Recovery/Wellness Planning.
  • WVCBAPP Peer Recover Certification upon hire.
  • West Virginia state and/or Federal criminal background checks required for DHHR WV CARES and/or regulated areas, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Certificate of completion of the CCAR Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department.
  • Active participation in the recovery for two or more years and current active attendance at community recovery meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Work actively with patients with Substance Use Disorders identified in WVU Health System treatment settings Help link patients to outpatient treatment.
  • Provide mentoring through life-experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.
  • Meet face to face with individuals and identified support persons in person and/or by phone, at a frequency and format requested and agreed upon by the individual.
  • Develop individualized plans with patients and monitor those wellness plans during meetings.
  • Provide information to treatment team to inform treatment decision making.
  • Link patients to available resources, including, but not limited to: continuing education/professional development, safe housing, recovery supports, self-help groups, substance abuse and mental health services, sobriety meetings, and medical/health facilities.
  • Serve as a liaison to the patient’s formal and informal supports, including but not limited to: their referral source, family members, client sponsors, treatment providers, and other supporters.
  • Maintain working relationships with WVU Health System treatment staff and other agencies or institutions in order provide awareness of recovery as a reality and the availability of recovery coaching.
  • Assist patients in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, and other problems.
