About The Position

The Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) position at Native American Community Clinic is designed to support individuals and families in their recovery journey from substance use disorders. Funded by the State Opioid Response grant, the PRC will work collaboratively with a team to enhance access to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) through outreach, education, and resource navigation. The role emphasizes providing excellent customer service, engaging with clients, and connecting them to essential resources for stable housing, education, and employment, while promoting comprehensive health care and recovery support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year in recovery from substance use disorder.
  • Experience in a non-for-profit and healthcare setting.
  • Experience doing street outreach and/or working within the local Native American community preferred.
  • Current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board, Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders, or National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.
  • Proof of current COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Successful completion of a DHS background check.
  • Computer skills in spreadsheet software (Excel), word processing software (Word), electronic mail software (Outlook), and electronic medical record software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in harm reduction (2 years preferred).
  • Certified Recovery Specialist certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide recovery resource navigation and advocacy for clients via one-on-one or group support.
  • Explore resources that support recovery and are available to clients in the community.
  • Provide education, advocacy, and mentoring through self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences.
  • Assist clients in accessing resources for housing, employment, education, and advocacy services.
  • Provide nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community.
  • Assist new intakes with direction and provide guidance.
  • Maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and businesses in the community.
  • Locate appropriate staff members and/or supervisor to respond to client needs when necessary.
  • Responsible for light documentation and data entry in electronic health record system.
  • Possess a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality.
