In addition to clinical care in the PICU, the group also provides procedural sedation, coordinates and supervises transport of critically ill children to the PICU from across the region, and provides telemedicine support to referring Kaiser Permanente Emergency Departments. The PICU has about 600 admissions per year as well as a growing sedation service with over 1100 elective sedations per year. The PICU admits both medical (~85%) and surgical (~ 15%) patients including postoperative neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, ENT, and orthopedic patients.
