About The Position

Sun River Health provides comprehensive primary, preventative and behavioral health services to all who seek it, regardless of insurance status and ability to pay, especially for the underserved and vulnerable. It is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a full-time Pediatrician to join their Yonkers - Valentine Lane location. The Pediatrician will diagnose and treat patients in their specialty area, collaborate with and supervise nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants, and participate in planning and developing health care services. They will treat conditions and illnesses within the scope of their specialty, manage referrals and follow-up of patients, and participate in after-hours coverage to ensure 24-hour availability of care for Center patients. The role requires performing job duties in compliance with systems and job specific standards. Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree M.D. or D.O.
  • Valid License to practice medicine in New York State
  • Board Certified
  • 2-4 years related work experience
  • Physician License in New York State
  • CPR/BLS
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures that nurse practitioners are trained to do and are necessary for practicing in health care centers
  • Competence in delivery of health care to patients (including preventative health education)
  • Ability to collaborate with other members of the Health Center in order to maintain high quality standards and achieve client satisfaction

  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish (orally and written) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosis and treatment of patients in his/her specialty area
  • Collaboration and supervision of nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants
  • Participation in planning and developing health care services in his/her specialties
  • Treatment of conditions and illnesses within the scope of the physician’s specialty
  • Referral and follow-up of patients when indicated
  • Participation in after-hours coverage to insure 24-hour availability of care for Center patients
  • Performs job duties in compliance with systems and job specific standards
  • Takes histories, performs physical examinations, and prescribes treatment and medication for conditions falling in the scope of his /her specialty following evidence-based standard of care
  • Provides off hours and hospital coverage for Health Center patients where contractually obligated to do so
  • Designs and participates in quality improvement activities, including Medical Record Peer Review, performance and procedure audits, outcome audits, and focused reviews
  • Provides supervision for clinical activities of medical providers and medical documentation in his/her department, including but not limited to review of protocols, telephone triage, follow-up procedures
  • Coordinates tests, referrals, and care of SRH patients outside the Health Center
  • Sets standards for preventive care and diagnostic screening within his/her specialty
  • Participates in the development of programs to carry out these standards
  • Maintains legible and appropriate documentation of medical records
  • Participates and attends provider meetings
  • Participates in NBN rounds
  • Provides safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity, quality and patient satisfaction standards
  • 4–5 weeks of one-week telephone coverage annually
  • One evening session per week
  • One monthly half day Saturday NBN rounds one week per month including weekend coverage
