About The Position

Position Summary Under general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and Medical Director, provides and manages direct health care for a specified patient population.

Requirements

  • State of New Mexico licensed Pediatric Physician required
  • Completion of residency with board certification/eligibility in family practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics preferred.
  • Previous training and experience working with underserved populations and
  • Medical Specialty License or Certification
  • State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty
  • CPR Certified
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
  • Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides primary medical care to patients based on the federal standard of 4250 patient encounters per year per 1.0 FTE which averages 21-22 patient encounters per day.
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses in children as authorized by their medical license and in accordance with FCCH protocols.
  • Provides preventive health care to children in accordance with clinic guidelines.
  • Participates in setting medical and nursing standards and protocols for the health center(s).
  • Attends provider meetings.
  • May be a member of FCCH standing committees.
  • Assists nursing staff with patient triage of telephone calls and questions.
  • Documents patient encounters and refers patients for further diagnosis and treatment outside FCCH.
  • Maintains patient problem list and med list.
  • Available for consultation with Physician Assistants and Family Nurse Practitioners whenever required.
  • May be assigned supervising physician for Pediatric Physician Assistants and/or Pediatric Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • May supervise pediatric medical residents and students learning medical practices at the health center(s). Participates in site team meetings.
  • Works with other providers and nursing staff to provide a team approach to patient care.
  • Administers medications and injections as required. Supervises qualified Medical Assistants administer and injections of medications.
  • Dispenses medication in compliance with Board of Pharmacy Regulations.
  • Participates in clinics for special populations, i.e. diabetes, well child, vaccinations.
