Under the direction of the Chief of Pediatrics, the Physician is responsible for the administration of developmental test(s) to assess and diagnose autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across all ages, developmental levels, and language skills. Requirements

  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County.
  • DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Requires an active Class C California driver's license, proof of liability insurance at $100,000, on vehicle used. No more than 2 points in past 12 months; no suspensions in last 2 years for moving violations; no DUI, reckless or felony driving within 5 years. No license revocation in 7 years.
  • Graduated from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Three years of residency training in pediatrics
  • Board certification in pediatrics
  • Additional subspecialty training in developmental-behavioral evals and assessments.
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
  • DEA license
  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of California.
  • Training certification in developmental/behavioral assessment and evaluation for autism
  • At a minimum 1-year experience required
  • Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation).
  • Cultural and linguistic sensitivity to populations served required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to take a detailed medical history.
  • Must possess a demonstrated commitment to community medicine.

Nice To Haves

  • experience with underserved, low-income persons, or homeless persons preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) capabilities strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial assessments for assigned patients with developmental and behavioral difficulties
  • Administers autism diagnostic testing such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) test or other tools as appropriate. This includes an intake for compiling all pertinent history, observation, behavioral assessment, completing a report and a follow up visit for sharing findings with the family. May conduct other age-appropriate testing based on child’s identified needs.
  • Participates in development of patients' individualized care plan, in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Makes treatment recommendations based on interpretation of assessment findings. Is knowledgeable about both internal and external resources the family may need.
  • Works effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Communicates with providers, other physicians, case managers, scheduling staff, referring providers, and with outside agencies and authorities, in a timely and appropriate manner when and if needed.
  • Connects patients to internal/external resources as appropriate; and documents clear plan of care including referrals.
  • Documents need for referrals and works with appropriate clinic personnel responsible for guiding family through internal/external referrals
  • Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and with electronic medical record requirements and complies with patient’s insurance requirements.
  • Follows FHCSD policies and procedures, including (but not limited to), cooperating with the timely submission of credentialing and licensing paperwork; maintaining BLS certification; maintaining CME units based on the requirements of the specifying Board; attending all mandatory meetings; minimizing incident reports; using resources efficiently and providing services in a cost-effective manner.
  • Maintain FHCSD behavioral standards, including (but not limited to), effective listening and communication skills and respectful interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Complies with productivity expectations
  • Meets clinic site and organization needs in a reliable and flexible manner; prioritizes work and makes an effort to adhere to schedule.
  • Participates in administrative duties, including lab reports, charts, and medication refills reviewed and managed appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
