The Pediatric Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, is responsible for the ongoing development, growth and oversight of the Injury Prevention, and Educational program development on the Pediatric Trauma service. He/she must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of various allied health professions. The Pediatric Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator provides medical student, Resident and staff education and pediatric trauma injury prevention research. He/she has authority to act on all pediatric trauma education and injury prevention needs of staff and the community. He/she also functions as a senior advisor to the Trauma Chief regarding pediatric injury prevention and educational activities of staff and the community at large.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health related field or 5 years of experience in pediatric healthcare.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • EMT/Paramedic experience.
  • Masters degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a cooperative and collaborative working environment among the clinical disciplines involved in pediatric trauma care.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with the medical staff; trauma service staff; administration and other departments.
  • Oversee and develop a community outreach pediatric injury prevention program.
  • Supervise and develop an ongoing pediatric injury prevention and education program.
  • Establish and develop an education program for the trauma/critical care service.
  • Develop an injury prevention plan with the Trauma Chief to qualify for a level 1 trauma center designation.
  • Attend local and national meetings and conferences to remain current regarding issues relevant to the performance of duties.
  • Participate in pediatric trauma patient/family satisfaction projects as developed by the hospital.
  • Determine and implement injury prevention activities appropriate to the pediatric trauma program, and the community it serves.
  • Oversee the pediatric trauma Injury prevention program and participate in other quality initiatives that deal with the care of injured patients.
  • Review and investigate all pediatric trauma patient injuries, and identify need for education, in collaboration with the Trauma Program Managers, Trauma Director, and refer to the appropriate committees.
  • Report quality of care issues promptly to appropriate individuals, including Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Director, and hospital administration as deemed necessary.
  • Consult with appropriate medical staff and administration regarding quality care issues and adverse outcomes; identify areas to improve patient / community education.
  • Identify representatives from various disciplines appropriate to participate in prevention and educational activities.
  • Coordinate, schedule and facilitate educational calendar of events.
  • Review all trauma-related peer review and initiate action as necessary.
  • Support the requirements for trauma CME by participating and assisting in the education and training of hospital personnel physicians and specialists, and pre-hospital personnel.
  • Provide education for hospital staff regarding trauma program policies.
  • Participate in the education for medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Maintain relations with community organization and legislative bodies whose activities relate to trauma care and injury prevention.
  • Participate in hospital outreach activities as may be requested by administration.
  • Function as a liaison to other hospitals within the region.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
