About The Position

Position Summary The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will be placed on an HISD campus (or multiple campuses) to provide comprehensive speech and language services in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. The SLP is responsible for managing a student caseload, conducting evaluations, developing and implementing IEPs, and collaborating with the campus special education team.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
  • Current, valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) / SBESLPA.
  • Ability to pass a background check and complete HISD's required pre-hire paperwork/onboarding process.

Nice To Haves

  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
  • Previous experience working in a K-12 school-based setting, particularly within a large urban district like HISD.
  • Proficiency in HISD's preferred IEP/special education management software (e.g., EasyIEP, Enrich, etc.).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) SLPs are highly encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely and thorough initial, re-evaluation, and triennial evaluations to determine student eligibility for speech-language pathology services.
  • Interpret results and write legally defensible Speech-Language Evaluation Reports (SLER).
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with measurable, ambitious, and evidence-based goals.
  • Provide direct and consultative therapy services (individual and group) to address deficits in areas including articulation, phonology, fluency, voice, receptive/expressive language, and pragmatic/social communication.
  • Monitor and document student progress frequently using HISD's required data systems.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee to present evaluation results, discuss progress, and finalize IEPs.
  • Ensure all documentation and service delivery adheres strictly to IDEA, TEA (Texas Education Agency), and HISD special education timelines and procedures.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, and other related service providers (e.g., School Psychologists, OTs) to integrate communication goals into the general education curriculum.
  • Complete and submit accurate documentation for SHARS (School Health Related Services) billing.
